About Me:
Hello, my name is Kate White and I am a freshman student-athlete at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. I am in the Kelley School of Business, studying Finance and Real Estate. Throughout high school, I never really knew what path I wanted to take once I got to college. However, junior year I was introduced to a program through my school called Financial Services. In this program, we explored all the different possibilities in the business world. This opened my eyes and showed me how many different opportunities I have, and I am super excited to keep exploring these opportunities through Kelley!
In high school I was a multi-sport athlete, so I have always really enjoyed being a part of a team and being able to build community and family with my peers. Through Financial Services I got the chance to compete in Business Professionals of America for two years and have lots of success! In my first year, I was a part of a group project where were created our own virtual business. We went through the whole process of what it takes to start a business and keep that business running. That year we made it to nationals, and ended up placing 2nd in the Nation! After being exposed to all the different things that go into business, I know that there is a spot somewhere where I can make a difference.
some of my hobbies include:
working out, traveling, shopping, trying new foods, hanging out with friends, watching movies
My Major and Career Goals:
You might be wondering “why a business major”. For a long time, I had no idea what I wanted to do once I went to college. However that was changed once I was introduced to the business world! Throughout my junior and senior year in High School, I was apart of an amazing program called Financial Services where we learned about all the different ways to get involved in the business world. I also have some great mentors in my life that are involved in stock, real estate, and private equity firms. After learning about the basics and talking to these mentors, I knew that business is the right step for me to take.
I am the most excited to learn more about real estate once I get deeper into my major here at IUPUI. I am still on the fence about finance, but I am willing to learn about all the things it has to offer. After college I would love to be involved with a company where I can work my way up the ladder to a leadership position. I believe that I have strong organization and initiative skills where I can really make a difference for a company! I also would really like to get involved in real estate and managing multiple properties. I feel like I am in a great position because Kelley School of Business offers lots of different opportunities. The future is bright!

My First-Semester Experience
College has been an amazing experience for me! I just finished my first semester, and it is not anything like I was expecting it to be like. In the beginning of the semester, I was very nervous because I was worried it would be hard to balance being a student athlete and find social time in with all that. I was also really nervous about making new friends, but after getting through this semester I would never want to go back to the way things were before! I have grown in so many different ways, and I am so excited to see all the different ways I will evolve through my time here at IUPUI.
When you think of being an athlete, most people think about the physical part of it, but there is so much more you need to invest mentally. So to say the least, my freshman season playing volleyball provided me lots of different opportunities to grow mentally. To start off, I had to learn to get comfortable with change. This was a really big thing for me because this can apply in so many different ways in life. For our team, we had a lot of new faces so we needed to get comfortable with eachother fast so we could have an attempt in having a successful season. Another really big thing I learned about is how to mange things better when faced with adversity. We didn’t have the most wins this season, which can be hard to not get upset about. However the way we respond to this situation can make that much of a difference. I am so thankful for my new volleyball family, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and the IUPUI volleyball program!
Outside of sports has also been an amazing experience for me! On the school side, I have really enjoyed the professors I had, and I am very greatful for how willing they were to work with me and I really felt like they just wanted the best for me. I have made some new friends which has been awesome as well! I have gotten to go do some really cool things in Indianapolis like go to Pacers games, try new restaurants, explore “Mass Ave”, have shopping days with my girlfriends, and so much more. Overall my first-semester experience has been incredible and I can’t wait to keep things rolling next semester!
My Honors Experience!
I am vs what I want to become...
I feel like I have some great qualities that can be useful when it comes to being an honors student at IUPUI. I believe that I have very stong teamwork skills, and my peers can count on me to produce quality work in a timely manner. When it comes to the things that I am doing in life I feel like it is important to always try my best, so naturally I am very driven and hardworking. I am also very responsible and organized, and I always work on making sure that I am following directions carefully. I try to demonstrate these things in my day to day life. This includes me as a student, friend, sister, and teammate. I am always open to learning new things and trying out new ideas, so I am excited to work with my classmates on sharpening my skills and maybe even picking up some new ones!
I want to become a person that not only achieves her own goals, but also can inspire others to achieve their goals with the same passion and determination as me. There is a difference between a person that has initiative, and a person without initiative. I am a person that has strong teamwork skills, and my peers can always count on me to produce quality work in a timely manner because I am naturally a very driven and hardworking person. With these skills, I want to become someone that can set an example for others to want to always bring quality work to the table.
Being in the honors program at IUPUI, I am a responsible student that is always looking for new ways to grow. I want to become a student that takes new experiences and turns them into something I can share with my peers. With that I hope that my ambition is contagious to those I cross paths with! I have had an amazing experience this semester working with other honors students at IUPUI on how to sharpen our skills and be the best version of ourselves together.
Overall I am so excited for my future in honors at IUPUI. I hope that I can become the best version of myself over these next couple years, and take on the world in front of me with resilience and strength!
PROJECTS:
This spring semester, I took a honors specific class with other students enrolled in IUPUI Honors College. We met each week, learning about the different things that go into being an honors student. Down below are two examples of projects we worked on in class with a summary of what learned!
